Designer, designer, kerning tight

Inspired by William Blake’s The Tiger, an awe-inspired homage to graphic designers everywhere.

The Designer

Designer, designer, kerning tight
With no rest throughout the night,
Your quite mortal hand and eye
Could frame this cheerful symmetry.

What persistent weeps and whys
Turned these sketches into signs?
On what wage dare he aspire?
What the pride dare freelance hire?

Do you grow older, heavy of heart
Clenched of fist, take brands apart?
When (de)constructive art complete,
What sore hand? and what ripped sheets?

What the layer? What dot gain?
This white space here: again explain!
What the anchor? What quick mask?
What dire gradients cause these gasps?

When the clients dried their tears,
And said the work would last them years,
Did he smile, his work thus seen?
Or simply nod, his eyes a-gleam?

Designer, designer, kerning tight
With no rest throughout the night,
Your quite mortal hand and eye
Did frame this cheerful symmetry.
